Plot
‘’The plot is arguably this script’s biggest strength. It flows with such an effortless charm, pulling us into Marcus and Susan’s intertwined journeys. Beginning in England, Marcus’s awkward yet heartfelt fascination with Susan is sweet, and her choice to leave everything behind to rediscover herself feels incredibly bold. When the story shifts to India, it becomes a vivid adventure that contrasts Marcus’s comedic chaos with Susan’s quieter, introspective exploration. There’s such a sense of journey here – literal and metaphorical. The transitions between scenes feel seamless, each one bringing something new while staying true to the characters. The energy, humour, and emotional resonance never falter’’.
Structure
The script is beautifully structured. It keeps us constantly engaged with this perfect balance between Marcus and Susan’s journeys. The intercuts work incredibly well; just as we’re immersed in one of their worlds, we’re pulled into the other, creating this dynamic rhythm that keeps us from staying with either one for too long.
Dialogue
The dialogues are truly terrific—it’s sharp, memorable, and feels true to the characters. Marcus’s awkwardness is relatable and endearing. I loved that his dry wit balances perfectly with his moments of vulnerability. He’s one of those characters you root for because his self-deprecating charm feels so real.
Concept
At its core, this film is about taking a leap of faith for love and self-discovery, which is something anyone can connect with. The idea of two people on parallel journeys, unknowingly seeking something they both need but in different ways, is timeless and incredibly appealing. And massively romantic. There’s this beautiful balance between humour and heart, with Marcus’s comedic missteps and Susan’s emotional exploration resonating on different levels.
